Watercolors by Dan Hare (1933–2024)

Dan Hare, a native of Fairhope, Alabama, spent over six decades capturing the beauty of Southern wildlife, flowers, and landscapes through watercolor. A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he later made South Louisiana his home for nearly 60 years, with over 25 years in the River Parishes.

His love of the outdoors — fishing, hunting, boating, golfing, and exploring the Gulf Coast — inspired his art and shines through in the vivid detail of his work. Though watercolor began as a hobby alongside his professional career in healthcare, Hare’s natural talent earned him recognition across the South. His paintings were displayed and sold in galleries throughout Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Texas. He was honored as an award-winning artist by the Louisiana Watercolor Society, and many of his works remain in private and gallery collections.

Hare also shared his craft by teaching watercolor painting to children and community adult education students. He remained dedicated to his art until Hurricane Ida destroyed his studio in 2021. His passing in October 2024 marked the close of a long, creative life — leaving behind not only the legacy of a veteran and community member, but also a lasting body of artwork that celebrates the culture, wildlife, and natural beauty of the Gulf Coast.
